jet another japanese oddity: clear plastic bottles around the outside of the house or garden. the first thing that comes to mind: rations in the case of emergency. tsunami, earthquake, erupting volcano — to name a few of the country's specialties.
well, they are not to save from the inanimate. they are put in place to ward off cats. the vicious suburban tiger is supposed to get frightened by his own reflection in the water. kind of like looking in the mirror at 05:00 a.m. on a monday.
the repellent is widely known to not work on any animal. this does not hold back everybody from putting up a pet-parade. by now it might be tradition to make nice and orderly rows of plastic bottles. nice and orderly. and traditions are there to be treated nice. nice and orderly.
